How it Works

The AES-I energy saver compensates the shortcomings of typical AC units and adds intelligence to your AC system which:

  • Will instantly save money when retrofitting your existing HVACR equipment.
  • Optimizes the compressor efficiency with sensor-driven software algorithms.
  • Will not decrease cooling comfort.
  • Reduces compressor heat which helps increase compressor life.
  • The retrofit is maintenance free and Energy Star, UL and CE listed.

The AES-I is a retrofit control module that utilizes sensor-driven software algorithms that are designed to detect thermodynamic saturation and to optimize the compressor for maximum efficiency. What does this mean?  When there is enough stored energy in the AC system, the AES-I switches the compressor off and avoids overcooling.

In this stage of operation your AC unit switches into "saver mode". The fan keeps running and your system makes maximum use of the stored cooling energy in the heat exchanger. Once the stored energy is used up, the compressor can work at maximum efficiently again and is switched back on.

The set room temperature is reached without the inefficient stage of the cooling cycle. This results in significant energy savings without compromising cooling comfort.

Since the correct point to switch the compressor varies from unit to unit and changes with different weather conditions, the AES-I is constantly monitoring the cooling status of your air conditioning unit and adapting its settings to ensure efficient operation of your air conditioning system at all times.

Protecting your unit against short cycling:

Cycling the compressor too frequently in short time intervals may harm the compressor and must be avoided. For this reason, the AES-I features a built-in anti-short cycling program.

Besides the continuous anti-short cycling protection feature, the AES-I also adds a delay upon the power-up stage of your unit. This valuable feature protects your air conditioning unit against damages from short power outages that are common in many areas.

Applications:

The Airco Energy Retrofit Control Module was designed by HVAC/R maintenance experts and equipment manufacturers to be used with or without and existing Energy Management Systems (EMS) to save kW/hrs and extend the equipment service life.

  • Heat pumps (air and water source)
  • Chiller units (non-centrifugal)
  • Electric resistance heating/preheating units
  • Boilers and furnaces (natural gas, fuel, oil)
  • Hot water heaters (electric, natural gas, propane)
  • Walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Refrigerated warehouses
  • Industrial process heating and cooling equipment

Cooling and Refrigeration Applications:

  • Compressor-driven cooling equipment with thermal expansion valve
  • Smaller compressor-driven systems with higher loads and/or higher energy costs
  • Non-centrifugal chillers up to 100 tons, controls permitting

Heating Applications:

  • Furnaces, boilers, large hot-water heaters and heat pumps
  • Electric heating equipment of four kilowatts and larger
  • Standard-efficiency gas or oil-fired heating equipment greater than 100,000 Btu/hour
  • Smaller units with higher loads and/or higher energy costs
